The Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) has announced that the majority of patent, trademark, and industrial design official fees will increase on January 1, 2024. The fee increase is significant, exceeding 25% in many situations. To minimize the financial impact, we recommend taking proactive steps in 2023 where possible.

For designs, the fee increases scheduled for 2024 include, amongst others:
- Fee for an application for the registration of a trademark
- For the first class of goods or services to which the application relates
- Current Fee: C $347.35
- New Fee (as of 2024): C$458.00
- For each additional class of goods or services to which the application relates as of the filing date
